EDINBURG — Texas Southmost College Men's Soccer added two dynamic attacking players from the same school on Monday May, 5th.
The Scorpions signed Jesus Martinez and Jacob Roman from Edinburg North. The pair were pivotal in the Cougars' run to a Class 6A regional title appearance in 2023.
The duo had a successful season in 2024. Martinez scored 18 district goals in only 10 matches while Roman found the net 6 times, but also contributed as a playmaker in his No. 10 role.
"Signing top players is one of our duties," TSC Men's head coach
Mario Zamora said. "We are signing two players that could play together. We are looking for that partnership again. It is always an honor to be here at Edinburg North where we had success with other players that played for us."
Zamora said only having players for two years puts an emphasis on chemistry, so having a duo that have had success at a high level in South Texas was a welcome bonus to the squad.
"I want to play already," Martinez said. "I just want to get there and start playing with the team, get comfortable there, make more memories and opportunities so I could continue playing into the future."
Martinez and Roman are excited about continuing their partnership on the pitch and linking up with other former Cougars in Brownsville.
"I think this is a good opportunity for me to show a lot of people what I can do," Roman said.
Roman also has an eye on the future as well, like Martinez. Both will also be studying in the electrician program they said while on campus in Brownsville.
